How to adjust the fingerprint sensor LED lights on the BlackBerry KeyOne and disable the keyboard app extensions?

KeyOne is the new Blackberry Android smartphone  and has a set of LED lights enabled on the fingerprint sensor. Though this feature is important as at times it acts as a security indicator by letting you know when apps are interacting with the fingerprint sensor.

Fingerprint sensor that is embedded in the space bar of the phone’s keyboard is quick to unlock the phone immediately when you place your finger on it which is surprising for such as small sensor. You can add up to 5 fingerprints. There are also LEDs on the sides of the fingerprint sensor that can be optimized. But if for any reason you want to disable these LED lights then just follow the simple steps below.

First swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the notification shade.

Tap the Settings icon in the upper right corner.

Scroll and find Security.

Select Fingerprint.

Use the Optimize fingerprint LED slider

From there, you can adjust the setting as you see fit. You can turn the brightness all the way up, have it barely on, or just disable it entirely. It’s a small feature that was never there until the latest update in this phone.

Disable the BlackBerry Keyboard app extensions

In KeyOne Blackberry keyboard there are new quick mode extensions and updates to most of their core apps on the Google Play Store. Like Blackberry Hub has additional Hub integrations  with support to Skype Lite, Zalo, and KakaoTalk accounts. Many of you will like these new updates and many will not so if you wish to disable the Blackberry keyboard app extensions follow the simple steps given below.

Swipe down from the top of your screen and tap the gear icon.

Tap Languages & input. Then tap Keyboard settings

Tap BlackBerry Keyboard. Then tap Advanced

Tap Keyboard extensions and tap on the toggle to disable

Once disabled they’ll disappear from your view when using the keyboard app. Should you wish to ever enable them again, all you have to do is repeat the process and turn on the toggle.

Other updates in BlackBerry KeyOne

In BlackBerry Keyboard Quick Modes make it easier for you to toggle between multiple modes via a toolbar. These modes include: Dictation Mode where you access to voice input and settings for dictating messages, Emoji Mode entry to the emoji mode to select from hundreds of available emojis and the most recently used ones, Text Selection Mode to improved fine cursor control with a joystick-like controller to give you better maneuverability. Also, easily select, select all, cut, copy and paste text, URLs and emojis, Clipboard Mode which remembers all your copied text, URLs and emojis so you can easily paste previously copied content and Password Keeper Integration to easily enter your stored passwords in login fields, if you use the BlackBerry Password Keeper with its Autofill feature.

You will find also improved search capability where you can quickly search all messages with the same sender or subject from the More Actions menu. Also “Help Receive Emails Quicker” with this newly-added setting, you can receive emails quicker when BlackBerry Hub is running in the background. Have readability of wide tables in e-mail messages for the “Resize email to fit screen” setting, and improved readability of e-mail messages in Ukrainian language.

The notification tray remains open after tapping an action icon in a Hub notification, enabling you to triage multiple Hub notifications at a time. S/MIME can now be configured to use LDAP for certificate lookup when used in a managed profile. Using app config in Hub+ Services, an admin can configure it such that Chrome in the work profile uses single sign-on. This allows their users to only enter their username/password once per session when navigating internal work sites using Chrome.

In  the Launcher settings you can take more control over the home screen of your BlackBerry device. There are three added customizations to change the launcher like Icon size that allows for five different sizes, Grid Columns where you can change the number of columns from 4 to 7 and grid rows where you can change the number of rows from 3 to 7.

In Calendar & Contacts there is a new work week view with adjustable start date/end date. Then Event Edit and Creation Enhancements Landscape view is now available for editing and creation of calendar events. Get new look for the contacts app, with redesigned icons throughout.

Productivity Tab now helps you add item with the add item button making it easier to work within the productivity tab. Also updated UX tweak to show your free or busy time with a nice visual indicator. Under the usability enhancements you can now choose to save an image to a specific location on the phone.

Also in Privacy Shade if you need to hide or see a bit more on the screen there is the ability to choose between three different sizes for the viewing area. You can turn the lens off and use Privacy Shade as a screen dimmer or choose whether to allow the Privacy Shade to cover your phone’s virtual keyboard

In addition to the noted updates, there are also a few others such as DTEK and BlackBerry Power Centre that have also been updated.
